Obama talks on Uganda anti-gay bill

By suggestivetongue

While (acts on) homosexuality are illegal in Uganda and punishable to up to 14 years in prison, there is a new bill trying to turn that 14 years to life.

It also proposes the death penalty for a new offence of “aggravated homosexuality” – defined as when one of the participants is a minor, HIV-positive, disabled or a “serial offender”. -source

Obama was quoted calling the bill odious (note: abominable) and that it is unconscionable to target people who are homosexual for who they are. Obama has been criticized much by the GLBTQ community since becoming president, so I am glad that he is speaking out on this issue along with the don’t ask/don’t tell policy. I think it’s important that he makes his voice heard and hopefully it will bring about some change. At the very least, I hope that many more people become informed about what is happening in Uganda. Be sure to click the source link about and read more on what he had to say and more about what is going on. This while from last year, is also interesting.
